In Guatemala today, contemporary Maya artists are carrying on a tradition of Indigenous painting that dates back to 1929. Their artistic traditions go back for centuries. These works reveal the beauty and hardships of Maya women's lives.
The Helen Moran Collection promotes the dignity and human rights of Indigenous and Latina women by bringing these important works to the public.
